West Retains Riley Plate with 18 ½
to 18 ½ Tie
The 13th playing of the World 100 Club tournament was held at the beautiful Sea Island Resort. The West came out firing in the four ball matches, winning six of the nine matches played on Thursday.
The East came roaring back in the Team Stableford Competition, with the West managing to record only one win and one halved match on Friday. Needing to gain four points during Saturday'sSingles matches to retain the Riley Plate, the West managed to notch 11 points and tie the East on the very last match of the afternoon.The tie enabled the West to retain the Riley Plate for another year.
Chris Kinney of the East and Hank Nordhoff of the West were the only two players to win all three of their matches. Both were awarded team MVP Jugs for their efforts. Kinney also secured his second Club Quiach, scoring low net among those eligible for Railroad Retirement. James Varnam easily won his record fourth Club Vase.
Eric Katzmann and Rich Fagen tied for low net and will share the Club Cup for the next year.
